The Oregon Zoo is seeking temporary gardening staff. These positions require the ability to perform manual labor and a valid driver’s license. Note: Most of the temporary garden staff is hired at the Assistant Gardener (Laborer) level.
Performs light to heavy manual work while assisting the Gardeners. Duties include, but are not limited to: landscape construction; cleaning and performing simple maintenance tasks; sweeping litter and debris and loading refuse into vehicles or drop boxes; digging and backfilling trenches and holes; and assisting with pipe repair.
Performs semi-skilled and skilled gardening work in the planting and maintenance of native and ornamental plants, trees, shrubs and flowers. Performs some manual labor tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to: landscape & irrigation construction, fertilizing and conditioning soil; maintaining turf areas; planting; using power tools and operating vehicles and equipment; general maintenance tasks; irrigation maintenance.
Experience in general gardening or landscape work; ability to perform manual labor; ability to follow work rules; ability to work under adverse weather conditions; and possession of a valid driver’s license.
