Conservation Grants
AZH conservation grants are intended to encourage plant conservation activities and partnerships within and between AZH members, member zoos and member zoo partners. Grant monies are provided from the AZH Conservation Fund. These funds are obtained from AZH members and auction activities at annual conferences. These grants are intended as venture capital or "seed" money for projects relating to broad plant conservation issues and activities of modern zoos within the support capabilities of the association. The focus for these grants should be plant conservation activities that tie to habitat conservation, biological diversity preservation, germplasm preservation, environmental education, and/or improvements in horticulture or botanical operations
Conservation Grant objectives
Funded programs/projects should be completed as stated and the money provided by AZH spent in one year. The programs should be of the highest quality as possible with a clear purpose and detailed budget. The project should have significance to plant conservation and a close tie to AZH’s stated focus. Projects are intended to increase plant conservation experience, ability, tools and capacity for members and member zoos to accomplish plant conservation activities. Projects which have an educational value or additional benefit to stakeholders, one of which should be AZH members, are given priority. Equipment purchase requests, although not excluded, will be given less priority. If equipment is part of the funding request then it must be shown to be essential to the project. Also, in most cases direct zoo employee wages and administrative costs will not be funded. All plant conservation project applications are welcome, however if profits are expected (or generated) from the project, it must be shown how a portion of these profits will be reinvested in plant conservation activities.
